Graphene & Its Applications in LIB Anode Materials
The LIB anode material mainly includes Natural Graphite (59%), Artificial Graphite (30%), Mesocarbon Microbeads (8%) and other types (3%). The graphite based material still occupy the mainstream of the LIB anode materials; while in recent years, the R&D of novel anode materials (such as lithium titanate, graphene) are concerned by the industry.
Graphene is a novel material; its original finders won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Graphene used in LIB anode material, the electric capacity and high rate chrge and dischrge performance can be significantly improved.
In China, Beijing University of Chemical Technology and other institutions have started the studies of graphene materials. Enterprises have also begun to promote the industrialization process of the graphene anode material. In November 2011, the Sixth Element Material Technology Co., Ltd was set up in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, which will produce the LIB anode material used graphene. The company planned to produce about 1t graphene products in 2012. In April 2012, Dalian Greentech Advanced Materials Co. Ltd built a automatic production line of graphene anode materials, the capacity is 300 t/a.
2012 China LIB Anode Materials Conference will be held in August 23-25 in Qingdao, Shandong Province. The expert from Beijing University of Chemical Technology will deliver a presentation on "The Study of Graphene as a Lithium-Ion Battery Anode Material”
